Mind Prober

Game Review

Now here is a classic: Mind Prober; it’s pretty damn old and pretty damn basic in its interface but man is it interesting. It was like one of the best selling educational games of the 80’s. It seemed pretty basic, just rate yourself or other people based on about 23 adjectives, but when you actually completed rating yourself/others you would be bombarded by 3 pages of data describing the person that was just rated. There are four sets of questionnaires, under 18 Male, 18 plus male, and the same age split for females. At the time it was quite amazing with the accuracy of the game. It would describe some people to a very high standard. The coding behind it is intuitive and actually quite ingenious and is well developed and tested. As far as I could see there were no flaws or errors in the coding and it was quite streamlined. The game itself is quite interesting and leaves you wondering how they actually did it. The graphics are next to nonexistent as it is a mainly text based game, as far as I can remember it only has about one image and the rest is just text. The game though it sounds simple is quite complex and when you got it new off the shelf came with a manual the thickness of a bible, not literally (of course). The millions of different combinations that are possible means that you could evaluate one hundred people and not get the same or even a similar report within that time unless you enter the same values twice. Being a text based game it might not be enticing to the younger audience but the game has its merits: it’s a very well developed game; it has lots of novelty value and it is fun for a while. The game also has its down sides, it is infinitely complex and quite hard to understand the first way through, its text based (not saying that that is all bad) and it’s actually quite badly addictive. If you download this game soon you’ll be probing everyone to see how it works and how everyone is described by it. Overall mind prober is one really badly addictive text based game, be careful it might take hours of you time. Its fun, streamlined and addictive, it intuitive, fun, and quite retro (yes I did just say fun twice, that’s because it is actually fun). Mind prober is one of the better retro text based games
