Do you want to corner like Shumacher or swerve like Senna? Well for all of you who love simplistic go karting games, this is quite possibly the most addictive game you will find and we've all got to start somewhere. I used to play this a few years ago and when I played it recently, it took me back to my childhood silliness and competetive edge at the same time. Do not be expecting the likes of the new games in terms of graphics and game play but for an all round fun racing game this is the one for you. The twists and turns in this game make it fun and does not take away from the fact that it is a racing game and keeps it competetive. It's very difficult to compare this game to the likes of the bigger names such as Mario Kart with its wacky shooting and bombs etc. but some people want to just race rather than mess about with gizmos and firing buttons. Give me a straight forward accelerate-and-brake control any day. Then all you have to worry about is turning the tight hair pins or navigating the chicanes.
I think in terms of addictiveness you won't be dissapointed either. I have spent hours playing this because even if you win you want to just beat your lap time over and over again. Overall it's a good karting game with everything you expect at this level of gaming which can be enjoyed for five minutes or five hours. Either way you will end up wanting to play again.
The technical stuff, as you would expect with a game of this age the controls of the game are very simple along with the visual effects themselves. There is some of the old square factor on design but isn't that what retro gaming is all about? What would the likes of Pacman or Space Invaders be without juddery bits and simple graphics? The simplicity of the game is what makes it so great, I think as, with all arcade games, so don't expect the likes of Gran Turismo but do expect to get hooked on a classic that should not be lost into the library of the old gaming world where most of the old classic Amiga and such games seem to go.
So give it a go. I promise you will not be dissapointed by Go Kart Challenge if you are a true old school petrol head or a newbie who wants to see what all the fuss about retro gaming is. I hope you appreciate it like I did as a child! Enjoy !
