Rock, Paper, Scissors, a classic game from everyones childhood. Who can forget the long boring dull and not to mention tedious summers with only one friend for company, assuming your imaginary friend has got bored with you too, and suddenly the magical idea of passing several hours playing this simple game, with just your hands as props. Well dreamers the fun doesn’t end there! You can now relive all the excitement and thrills when you play that exact same game on your pc! Imagine my joy when I saw this game was yet again available, this time in glorious technicolour. You get to determine what hand you play, is it going to be rock, maybe it will be scissors, or maybe you’ll be bold enough and brave enough to go with paper. Paper beats rock, rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, and rock can blunt scissors. Oh the joys! The endless, neigh countless hours you can spend playing the age old classic again and again into the wee small hours of the night. I once saw a magician play this game in real life, and he never got a hand wrong! How creepy is that! His name was Derren Brown and definite worth looking up as for me, and I consider myself to be a paper scissors rock officiando, it totally blew my mind, and my mind is not easily blown let me tell you. Not sure I can give you any more information that that really. It keeps you guessing, keeps you smiling, and keeps you awake. I am long awaiting a follow up game, maybe “what number am I thinking of” or even “I spy”. Or maybe even hide and seek, where you get a friend to hide your laptop and you have to find it. Musical statues might be a little monotonous as no doubt your laptop will win every time, being that it is an inanimate object which of course gives it a definite edge of movement based games, where stillness wins your points and prizes. Fun for all the family, all ages, or states of mental illness. Lets be honest, you;d have more fun peeling labels off of jars in your kitchen cupboards, but if you are totally lost for something to waste electricity then you might as well play paper rock scissors. Hmm, alternatively you could make some friends with people in the real world and who knows maybe you will end up having a laugh, talking about life, having a drink and even having a date, and not wasting your life on this absolute bilge!

There is also the versatile paper, with its malleable quality allowing it to shroud, confuse and ultimately defeat the brawn of rock. Often disregarded for its weak reputation, paper is the most underrated of the 3 weapons, with its sturdy oak origins regularly forgotten. Finally in the cruel twisted world of hand signal battling that goes on in play grounds the world over, there is the much sort after scissors. Known for its ability to arrive soon after an opponent has played paper, in a simple transformation from what was rock, and if which done fast enough can be the difference between having to be goalkeeper or superstar striker. And it is for scissors transformational qualities which give it the edge over paper, and round of the vicious cycle of rock, paper, scissors; in which once that 3 count is reached there is only one winner and one loser.
Some theorists hold that there are ways, techniques or even supernatural methods that can give an advantage. And on the basis of Alex the Kid, such arguments are plausible. However, reality has failed to give any rock hard evidence to successful techniques. The only advice is to get to know your opponent, which includes not just their preferred weapon, but also their weapon repetition tendencies and any gives they may have.
For budding rock, scissors, paper battlers, there is one last piece of advice. No matter how experienced, how calloused or intimidating an opponent is, it’s the same battle field and the same weapons available, so anyone can be beaten.
Actually, in truth, the game is just one of luck, just keep changing what you play and you have a 50-50 chance of winning.
