Western Front

Game Review

Western Front was the first foray into the world of war games by developer Gary Grigsby. The game was advanced for it's time. Even a breakthrough in video gaming culture as it incorporated good graphics with even better gameplay. World War II gamers everywhere rejoiced everywhere at finally being able to find a war game that satisfied their appetite for war gaming violence. Western Front allows you to control either one of two sides: the Allied or the Axis. Control over your own forces whether it be by air, land, or water gave the game a wartime feeling second to none. The Year was 1991. By the end of the year, Western Front had by far outlasted its competition with competitive gameplay, online co-op mode readily available and great graphics.
Competitive gameplay was at the very core of Western Front as players were given the free will to choose their side, manage their resources adequately, and outlast their opponent in a fight to the finish which was unlike anything seen in any war time video game at it's time. Online co-op mode allowed players to compete with their friends and other players alike in order to make things more interesting. Gone were the days when players were only limited to playing in one location with only one player mode. Western Front was war time gaming in its finest hour. The enhanced graphics engine was in a league of their own for that time period. They allowed gamers to play Western Front without having to worry about choppy graphics, game freezes, or system time delays. Many previous war games such as Rambo would have problems which were cumbersome and resulted in many headaches which could all have been avoided with a greater attention to detail on the part of game developers.
Western Front is a great first attempt by game developers into the world of war games. What can we expect from future war game developers? A revolutionary 3D graphics engine, excellent gameplay options, the ultimate in realism, and wartime gaming feel would give World War II gaming fanatics what they have always craved. The ultimate wartime game that rivals that of real-time warfare in almost every possible way, shape, and form.

Western Front is really good game. Not only the graphics but also the gameplay. It has some interesting sound and music. It is still good even now.
