Game Review

Atomix is a 2D puzzle game that was released in the early 90s. Created by Softtouch and published by Thalion Software, the game involves solving puzzles. To solve puzzles, you must move around atoms to form molecules.
There is a preview window for each puzzle showing you what the molecule should look like after you have solved the puzzle. Each level has a time limit so you must work fast and make sure you don’t make any mistakes that will cost you time. The screen has wells and little tile-blocks that represent the atoms. To solve the puzzle you can slide the tiles up, down, left or right. When you move an atom block, you can’t control where it stops as the block will only stop when it hits another atom block or when it hits a wall. You need to plan the game carefully as mistakes can be costly. You need to use critical thinking and employ a good strategy on this puzzle game.
The game is also educational because it gives you basic lessons on chemistry. You will learn the atoms making up a compound. In the first game you must solve the puzzle to create water with three atoms (H2O) - two units of Hydrogen atom and one unit of oxygen in a Horizontal lay out. As the game progresses puzzles will be more complicated. Still, this game is so much more fun than High School chemistry. If my High School Chemistry and other subjects were this fun, I would have performed better in school.
Other levels will have you solving puzzles to form Methane, Ethene, Propene, Ethanol, Propanol, Methanol, Ethanal and others. The game has a total of 30 stages. There are bonus stages between 5- 6 levels. You have only one life so the game can be a bit challenging when the puzzles become more complicated. The game also has no save feature. The graphics of the game are simple and there are no entertaining sounds to make the game more fun.
This is a great educational game for students and even for adults who no longer attend school. The game helps sharpen the mind and can even help boost your interest in Chemistry and Science.
It’s a fun and simple game with a unique concept. The game is definitely not boring and can even be addictive for some players. Of course I don’t expect everyone to fall in love with this game but it can sure get people interested in Chemistry.
