Dune 2 is a very involving and rewarding war/strategy game very similar to command and conquer. It's probably the best type in its genre ever made and proves that to make a great game you don't need state of the art graphics and sound- kind of like hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Anyway the basic goal of the game is to command your troops in the takeover of the planet against two other armies or "houses". There are three houses altogether, the ordos, the harkinnon and the ardiennes.
There are various missions including spice gathering (not as boring as it seems) ,the destroying of enemy targets and defending your base. As the levels go up you get to build a better base with more weapons and facilities. Ultimately, its probably the best game of its kind, even by today's standards.
Dune 2 takes place on the planet Arrakis also known as Dune, home of the Spice Melange. The Emperor of Dune has made a proposal to the Three Houses of Dune, that is, whoever produces the most spice will control the planet of Dune. So now the Three Houses of the Atreides, Ordos and Harkonnen engage in war over control of the powerful Dune.
Dune 2 is by far the best abandonware game I have ever played. Westwood, who is most famous for Command & Conquer, first got their feet wet with Dune 2. This game is very similar to C&C in that you must use your wits to produce the most effective attack against your enemies. What I really enjoyed about this game is that you can play any of the three houses, making the game last much longer; if you conquer Dune with one house try another. Dune 2 sports incredible game play along with exceptional graphics, which is why I chose Dune 2 as number one on the Top 10 List. Have a pleasurable time with this game.
