Unfortunately I can't seem to get this game to run. Anybody has an idea why?
I am trying to run it on 450 MHz Pentium III and Windows 98. My Directx version is 8.1.
I already have tried to make it work by switching the screen size and switching off the directx accelerators (as was recommended on the C:DOS page). Still that had no effect.

| I checked in some sites. Try using an old version of your graphics driver and also maybe DirectX 6.0( I amn't sure if these are useful but these are what I found in some sites). Check this http://www.peachmountain.com/5Star/PEG_FAQs.asp |

Hey your computer sounds just like mine! I have a HP Vecra i8 450 MHZ 64MB RAM P III with win 98 SE.
By the way I don't think an older version of Direct X will work. Since newer is always better with directX. I wish I could help but I know nothing of this game. |

| try changing colours from 16 or 32 bit to 256...Atleast allied general requires it. |

| Ok, I tried it already wtih all colour and resolution settings, unfortunately with no results. I also changed the folders, like directly to c:, some games require that. Nothing. It's weird PGII works without a problem. And I can't download form peachmountain.com. Everytime I click on download nothing happens. I downloaded the C:DOS version though, but I have exactly the same problem. The screen goes black for a second and then it goes back to Windows without warning or anything.... |

Yeah I already tried that, but same problem..... Theproblem seems to be common since I saw on peachmountain.com that they were referring to the same problem. But then they said I should read the .txts after downloading, and since the download doesn't work....
Still, thanks for your trouble. |

| Maybe you're right. But apart from this page and C:DOS I couldn't find a downloadable copy, and I have the same problem with both versions. Did anyone download the game from this page and it worked? |

This game tend to be finicky for some people for some reason (the other 5 Star games are like that, as well). I'm going to give you a link here to a place called JP's Panzers Forum. they have pages for all the SSI games (most of the pages are still very active), including one for People's General. You can look through it and see if you can find something that will help you.
Also, a lot of the files on the 5 star site you have to purchase...UNLESS you are a JP's member (creating an account there is just as simple as it is here), then you send a guy who goes by the name Narayan (he rens the 5 Star peachmountain site) a private message, asking for free access. that could be why you couldn't download from there.

there is also this site

That one is People's General ONLY...the moderator used to run the People's General section on JP's. anyway, they can square you away, and if you do get it running, they can also help you update the crap out of the game (there have been a lot of user created mods that totally update the equipment rosters, and the way the game works...once those are installed, there are a lot of usermade campaigns as well).
Good luck!

| Hello, I have a problem with People's General on my HP Notebook, the game simply refuses to start on it. I have tried all sorts of compatibility fixes but to no avail. The game works perfectly on a desktop but not on the Notebook. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you. |
