How much do you like old games? Would you pay for copy-protected games? Would you pay for just getting an *electronic download? Which games would you be most interested in playing? What type of support/information would you require if you bought a game?

Please let me know what price range, type of games, and type of download you would go for if you were about to buy a game in let's say a webshop!

Answer the poll from this question: Would you pay for an electronic download of a copy-protected titles?

*Electronic download means that you are downloading a zip file instead of getting a packages by mail which will reduce the costs for the game. You pay directly on the website and get a link in return.

Yes, $1-$5 53.8% (14)
Yes, $5-$20 23.1% (6)

That's a bit tricky issue - most classic games either run with great difficulty on new machines , or don't run at all , even with all the available emulators , so it would be bad buying a game only to find out it's unplayable , and as it is in electronic form , you can't get refunds by returning the goods .
You could try to release a "trial" product and to expect the payment when the buyer makes sure the game runs , but that's just another Pandora box .

I think there are a few games i'd pay for , but most likely not over 5$-10$ .

IF I had the means of paying, I would pay 1-5 $ per game, that is mostly because my current computer Is too crappy for dosbox, So getting games work would be unsure...

yup, most people wont pay over 5 bucks for a game... fact of the matter is, most games can be downloaded illegally.. so, wed have to offer the manuals and extras along with the purchase

I'd pay 5-10$. 20-50$ is a bit off the wall for a Classic game don't you think?

Depends on the game, I guess. As to the "pay and get a link" idea, then you run into the problem of people distributing the link or them selling the link themselves to recoup their money

I think it would depend on how the game was packaged. i mean, i have had a few problems with more Larger downloaded SIZED games (mainly from the underdog team (poo.) soz but they need to rethink there strategy on these packages, i mean they dont even include a README on how they recommend installation, and unless you have the wit of the witty underdog team you'll spend alot of time getting no where. Luckily, i am writing these FAQ's on a few of the packages i installed, the CDOS team is great here, just a few packages available have credit to another team (mentioned above) that likley considers themselves 1337. SO, if its a question of fully licenced packages from the CDOS team the answere will have to be Absolutley. Otherwise, no i could do it better myself. Later guys! Keep on gamin!

I couldnt afford right now to do so. And another good reason I agree with alvarin that they may not run at all with any emulators. I recently downloaded theme hospital and till now i havent found out the way to play in my system. I ve almost tried everything from compatibility,256 colors to dosbox.

Some games just refuse to run no matter what.....

I'd pay as much as $30 for an average classic in its original box, or as much as $60 for very rare games that I'm very serious about -- maybe more. Again, in its original box, with documentation.

I find the paid electronic download sometimes a good idea, sometimes almost offensive. See, I admire id Software for keeping their games on sale through the site, but they ask $20 for a simple download of old Doom versions, while you can get Doom 3 in a CD (maybe even the full box) for $25, on the same site. Collector's Doom was being sold for around $20 in its original box in retailers down here in Brasil too. So I think $20 for a download is almost offensive here.

*BUT*, there's always the fact that you can get a full clean version of your favorite game. I actually paid $20 for the license for New Star Soccer 3, because there's no box whatsoever. And for the right price, it might be much better downloading the clean installation files (or ISO) from the developer than a second-hand not quite virus-free installation from an abandonware site.

And I see many people here thinking it's hard to run old games. I don't recall ever really not being able to run one that I really wanted, with or without DOSBox... so that's never been a problem to me.

I would pay about 10 at max. Otherwise I wouldnt spend any money.
